This presentation reviews an eventful year for HR professionals and previews some changes that employers might expect in the coming year. We will begin with a discussion of 2017’s most important developments in federal, Massachusetts and multi-state labor, employment and immigration law, including:

  • Developments in Massachusetts anti-discrimination litigation and enforcement priorities
  • Wage and Hour issues, including state and local minimum wage increases and the status of the FLSA final overtime rule
  • NLRB leadership and direction
  • OSHA and EEOC reporting updates
  • Implications of the recent Massachusetts SJC decision regarding medical marijuana
  • The recently adopted Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and what it means for employers

The second half of the program will focus on the new amendments to the Massachusetts Pay Equity Law, which go into effect on July 1, 2018. Our discussion will include:

  • The new definition of “Comparable Work” under the new law
  • The six exemptions that justify pay differentials and establish employer defenses
