Sex And Race: Confronting Complex Challenges On Campus

Society is grappling with complex, volatile issues of race and sexual misconduct. Take part in an interactive discussion about sexual assault and the evolving definitions of consent, as well as bullying, harassment and other forms of interpersonal student misconduct. Mastering An Effective Investigation Of Alleged Misconduct

This program provides a detailed explanation of how to conduct an effective internal investigation on campus. Taking effective action in response to a student or employee complaint, or allegation of wrongdoing, is everyone’s goal, and this seminar will provide independent school administrators with essential tools for tackling this challenging topic. Topics in this seminar will include: planning the investigation, identifying the best investigator and witnesses, conducting complainant and witness interviews, documenting the investigation, preparing the investigation report, addressing wrongdoing, avoiding retaliation, the role of counsel, confidentiality and privacy issues.

- Tips for educating the leadership in advance of an investigation.
- Crisis management strategies—from a legal, moral and public relations perspective—for responding when allegations of misconduct arise.

Conference Goldmine: Drafting And Enforcing Enrollment Agreements: Tips And Traps

This goldmine will explore the key elements of creating a legally enforceable enrollment agreement, address common traps that independent schools ought to avoid when drafting and enforcing enrollment agreements, and identify internal policies for enforcement of enrollment agreements.

Decoding Permission and Release Forms

Speaker: Sarah H. Fay
Permission and release forms may be deployed in a variety of contexts, including day, overnight and international field trips, student athletic activities, homestay arrangements, experiential learning programs and for any extra- or co-curricular activities that occur outside of the classroom or academic curriculum. Legal counsel will provide guidance to help protect schools should problems arise during school-sponsored activities, via a detailed explanation of key provisions to include in permission and release forms. Real-world examples will demonstrate how permission and release forms have been, and should be, tailored to specific school cultures and activities.
